Dim Sum Brunch at Moksa

Brunch at Moksa a couple of weekends ago was my last big hurrah before I went gluten-free, dairy-free, and all-around diet crazy. Saturday night I ate stinky cheeses and loads of bread, and then Sunday morning I headed to Cambridge and filled myself up with delicious dim sum from Central Square’s new Pan Asian Izakaya (Izakaya meaning  a kind of Japanese drinking establishment that serves food to accompany the drinks). Moksa is quietly unassuming from the street, adorned with a simple black awning, and a rather barren front room (where we dined). This visit was my first at Moksa, and I was eager to see what it was all about. (more…)

Strawberry Coconut Tapioca Pudding

Today I have something a bit different to share with you, as a segue into a new time in the life of me, and by association, Sweetly Serendipity. I have battled some pretty awful stomach pains for the past almost two years, and despite lots of tests and doctors visits and second (and third) opinions, all results say I am “healthy.” But being myself and living with the daily pain, I know I’m not okay, so I’ve decided to try out a new diet with the help of an experienced dietitian, to see if I can’t reign in the pain with some eating changes and work towards a pain-free life. Lemon Curd Trifle with Fresh Berries

Easter for me marks the real beginning of spring baking. It seems a fitting time to bust out lots of lemon and berries and lighter desserts, to welcome the impending warm weather and seasonal fruits. This year was no different – I made this lovely lemon berry trifle, loaded with fresh berries, lemon mousse, and buttery lemon yogurt cake. It was the perfect Easter dessert, nice and light and springy after having a big, heavy meal. (more…)

Toasted Coconut Meyer Lemon Curd Layer Cake

Before this cake, I’d never really thought to combine lemon and coconut. The flavors are vastly different, and don’t necessarily seem like they’d play nice when combined in a dish. That said, a couple of weekends ago I was asked to make a really decadent, luscious dessert, and immediately I thought to make something with lemon and coconut. When I started doing a bit of recipe research, I realized the flavor combo is actually a popular one, so I decided to go with it. I found several recipes that looked good, and ended up taking components from a few different places to make one incredible cake. (more…)

Strawberry Lemon Yogurt Cake

This month’s Secret Recipe Club challenge totally snuck up on me, and come Friday I still hadn’t made anything from my assigned blog, Shockingly Delicious. Fortunately, I had a wide open weekend of relaxation planned, so I was able to whip this together with ease for a lazy family breakfast on Saturday. And it’s a good thing I did! This cake was surprisingly fantastic. Moist and flavorful, and so nice to look at. I know it’s a long ways away from true strawberry season, but this felt so lush and springy and wonderful. Thanks to Dorothy, the author of Shockingly Delicious, for the delicious inspiration! (more…)
