I can’t believe it’s already SRC time again – this past month just FLEW! Kevin and I have been spending the vast majority of each weekend lately out at open houses, and man oh man, it really eats up our time! It’s certainly fun, but also makes it feel like we no longer have real weekends. All worth the cause though, right?! That’s what I keep telling myself. Now let’s get down to business, shall we? It’s SRC time! (more…)
Muffins are such a wonderful breakfast treat. If done right, they are so satisfying and delicious, plus they come in individual portions, which means I can have one to myself and I don’t have to share
There’s this small bakery/cafe in the South End of Boston, close to the gym Kevin and I go to, and we always stop there on Saturdays after a long week of gym visits. It might seem counter-intuitive to go and indulge right after we’ve busted our butts at the gym, but it’s always such a welcome reward, and since we go just once a week – it’s totally okay, right? There are so many great things about summer, and I say it every year, but my favorite thing by far is the wide variety of local produce that is so readily available. It makes cooking and baking a thousand times more exciting, and adds such a fun, seasonal flair to every dish. This year again I grew some herbs and tomatoes on my deck, but not a lot of sugary baking recipes call for those ingredients, so I went instead to my Grandpa’s garden to harvest these raspberries (and about 10lbs of rhubarb too!). Two weekends ago, I joined seven other bloggers from Boston Brunchers for a late afternoon brunch at B Street in Newton. I don’t venture out to Newton much (or ever, really) so it was nice to check out a spot farther from home than my normal stomping ground. B Street is a cozy bistro space, with modern decor but a very comfortable feel. Booths line one wall, and tables the other, with a nice bar towards the back of the space. Shortly after we arrived, the proprietor Elli came out and greeted us with a nice warm welcome – and the servers brought us two cocktails! What a way to start brunch. (more…)

This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending the Hyper-Local Craft Brewfest at The Armory in Somerville. The event, put on by the Sustainable Business Network and the folks from Boston Local Food Festival, featured a variety of local brewers and winemakers, as well as some local food vendors. There was a great turnout, and I had a lot of fun trying some new (to me) local craft beers! (more…)
Last weekend, I got a message from Renee of Boston Brunchers around 9:15am, asking if I wanted to attend a brunch that morning at 11. Kevin and I had planned to make an elaborate breakfast and have a lazy start to the day, then I had family visiting in the afternoon, but when I got her message I just couldn’t say no! Bakers’ Best would be hosting 12 bloggers at their kitchen facilities in Needham, and it sounded like it would be amazing time. So I got myself together fast, and joined 11 fellow bloggers not even two hours later. (more…)
One thing I am grateful for is to live with someone who has a great creative mind when talking about food. I would not have guessed when I started dating Kevin that he would be the muse to my baking. Since I started my new job with much longer days, he’s been making dinner for us pretty much every evening, and I’m always pleasantly surprised at what I come home to eat! A lot of the times when I’m in the kitchen baking I have a plan and a recipe and I’m armed and ready, but there are times when I need an idea or some inspiration, and he comes to the rescue. It’s a pretty great quality, and pretty useful too – you have him to thank for these incredible pancakes! (more…)
Today is one of those days when I don’t have much to say. Shocking, for me, but it is what it is. Between trying to graciously step out of my current role and starting a new and exciting one Monday, lots of Superbowl meal planning, aiding my best friend in wedding planning antics, Pinterest obsessions (I swear it’s so addicting) and actually trying to get my real work done, my mind just isn’t here. There’s too much going on to think about these brownies, but at least I’ve got pictures and a recipe to do them justice. (more…)
I have to preface this post by saying… it has nothing to do with the holidays, or holiday flavors, or anything remotely festive. BUT it’s a great recipe, and would easily work on Christmas morning or any other morning you’re looking to warm yourself up with something simple but soul satisfying. I really love pancakes, but for some reason I very rarely make them. When I think about making breakfast foods, I usually gravitate towards muffins and coffee cakes, because I love my portable carbs. This past Sunday, I had the pleasure of joining a big group of local bloggers for the 1st anniversary of Boston Brunchers at Island Creek Oyster Bar. Boston Brunchers was started by Renee of Eat Live Blog as a way to unite local food-minded folks over the greatest meal EVER (in my opinion anyways) – brunch! Since it began in October of last year, it has developed into something so wonderful, for bloggers and the local food community alike. I’ve been to a few brunches over the past year, and they’ve all been a wonderful mix of great food and great company. This past Sunday was no different – the food was delicious, the service impeccable, the company bountiful and so pleasant, and the occasion such a special one. (more…)
A couple of weeks ago, I came across a recipe for zucchini pancakes – not the thin, crispy, savory kind, but breakfast pancakes! And these were not your average pancakes, but zucchini pancakes claiming to be “zucchini bread in pancake form.” Well you can imagine my delight, because zucchini bread is already one of my favorite quick breaks, but pan-fried and smothered with maple syrup? Yes, please! I went to the SOWA market in Boston’s South End last weekend and picked up an assortment of fresh produce, including two small zucchini just for this occasion. So on Monday morning after trekking back from the gym, I whipped up some of these pancakes with a bit of added flair, and we ate!
