This past week was a tough one. I haven’t posted since early in the morning on Marathon Monday, I haven’t been able to gather thoughts in an appropriate manner, and it wasn’t the time for fun new recipe posts anyway. For those of you also in the Boston area, I hope you made it through the week safe and sound, and that you are gradually getting back into the swing of things. I can definitely say it’s a relief to be returning to normal, though I wish we’d never had to endure that week and those horrific events in the first place. (more…)
Brunch is easily my favorite meal. I don’t often indulge in it, but when I do, it’s such a treat! I love being a part of the Boston Brunchers group because new restaurants are often brought before me, and I have a chance to try a place I’ve never been and sometimes never even considered. When I was offered a chance to visit John Harvard’s to try their Brewers brunch, I was psyched! (more…)
It feels like it’s been forever since I attended a Boston Brunchers event, so I was excited to get a chance to see the group a couple weekends ago for a brunch at Ball Square Cafe. If you’re from the area, you might have heard of the Ball Square Cafe vs. Sound Bites rivalry, which was really the only thing I knew about Ball Square Cafe before visiting… that and the fact that you can almost NEVER get in without standing in line. That usually means good things for a brunch place, so I was really looking forward to this meal. (more…)
It’s been three years since Sweetly Serendipity came into being. I started writing here in my litte virtual world on January 26th, 2010. I’d just returned home from a semester abroad in Australia, desperate for a kitchen, and a desire to chronicle all of my adventures. I never expected to stick with it so long!
My first experience with Max Brenner was years ago – we stopped into their Union Square, NYC location and sampled the most delicious little chocolates – their Praline Pecans. The little caramelized pecans are covered in chocolate dusted with cocoa powder, and are so incredibly delicious. With that first bite began a serious love affair.
It’s been a long time since I even thought about making donuts. I love to eat them, but the baked variety made in my own kitchen don’t quite have the same appeal as the bakery variety that are warm and soft with grease and sugar. But when I saw the recipe on Melissa’s blog Melissa’s Cuisine – my assigned blog for the October edition of Secret Recipe Club – I felt inspired to make them. (more…)
You read right… I have another Banana Bread recipe to share today. I know I’ve acknowledged my obsession before, and honestly… this probably won’t be the last time. I just love banana bread, what can I say?! This post has been sitting in my drafts for ohhh, about 4 months. That is not a joke. Why? Because I figured you’d never come back here to read this blog if I shared yet ANOTHER banana bread recipe! But then I thought, what’s one more? And I’m sure I’ll use that same logic again the next time I try to share a banana bread recipe with you…

How this month’s Secret Recipe Club recipe came to be was completely serendipitous. I named this blog Sweetly Serendipity because I absolutely love the word serendipity and what it means, but I’ve never really been able to utilize the word in every day conversation. I mean, can you think of the last time someone said “well that was serendipitous!”? I can’t. (more…)
I know, I know, I told you I’m eating gluten again, yet I’m sharinganother gluten-free recipe. This is a GOOD ONE though, too good to leave out of the blogosphere, so I’m sharing it with you today. I promise, gluten makes it’s grand reentrance soon!
In case you hadn’t noticed, I really love banana bread. I’ve shared it plenty of times on the blog, and have had to stop myself from sharing it more. My banana bread obsession began back when I was a little girl. We always went to the same family friend’s house on New Years day for a big party, and someone (who it was, I never found out) always brought the same banana bread. I was OBSESSED with it, so much so that I would linger by the table for much of the party, and take piece after piece until I couldn’t eat anymore. Sometimes when you eat so much of something, you start to get sick of it, but banana bread and I will NEVER part. (more…)

Strawberries and bananas are a winning combination. I went on a fruit-hiatus for a couple of weeks last month, and when I finally added fruit back into my diet it all tasted SO good. I added it to my breakfasts and snacked on it during the day, and baked it into some goodies! I had a banana that was going bad, and a container of fresh strawberries, so when I came across this recipe I wanted to make it immediately. (more…)
Last weekend, I got a message from Renee of Boston Brunchers around 9:15am, asking if I wanted to attend a brunch that morning at 11. Kevin and I had planned to make an elaborate breakfast and have a lazy start to the day, then I had family visiting in the afternoon, but when I got her message I just couldn’t say no! Bakers’ Best would be hosting 12 bloggers at their kitchen facilities in Needham, and it sounded like it would be amazing time. So I got myself together fast, and joined 11 fellow bloggers not even two hours later. (more…)
