Zucchini Bread with Chocolate and Walnuts

This month’s Secret Recipe Challenge totally threw me for a loop – I was assigned a blog written entirely in Danish! I’ve encountered plenty of different kinds of blogs throughout my time participating in the SRC, but never a blog in another language. My assigned blog New Yorker By Heart, written by Birthe, has dozens upon dozens of recipes – all kinds of recipes – really something for everyone, so I knew I’d be able to settle on something that I’d really enjoy. I was a bit overwhelmed at first because there was just SO much to choose from, but once I decided what kind of recipe I was looking for, I found something perfect in no time. (more…)

Chocolate Covered Bananas

How this month’s Secret Recipe Club recipe came to be was completely serendipitous. I named this blog Sweetly Serendipity because I absolutely love the word serendipity and what it means, but I’ve never really been able to utilize the word in every day conversation. I mean, can you think of the last time someone said “well that was serendipitous!”? I can’t. (more…)

Lemon Polenta Cake

This month for the Secret Recipe Club, I was assigned a blog called Wandering Spice written by Yasmeen. I was pretty excited about being assigned her blog, because as she explains, after much moving around, Yasmeen settled in Melbourne Australia. Australia happens to be one of my favorite places in the whole world, and I dream about going back pretty much daily. I spent a semester abroad in Australia when I was in college and it was the most amazing experience of my life, so any associations that remind me of that time and place are very welcome! (more…)

Homemade Granola Bars

This month for the Secret Recipe Club, I was assigned The Culinary Enthusiast written by Kelley. Her blog tagline is “For the love of cooking…and more importantly, eating” which pretty much sums up my life, so I was excited to see what recipes she had to offer. I went through all of her bread/breakfast/dessert/snack recipes (my favorite types of food to make), and picked out a bunch of things I was interested in trying. On that list was granola bars, and since I’ve had granola bars on my to-make list for ages, I decided to give those a try. (more…)

Honey Cocoa Almond Butter for SRC

For this month’s Secret Recipe Club Challenge, I was assigned the blog Delicious Existence written by Danielle. Danielle’s focus is on real foods, and features recipes that are raw, vegan, and vegetarian. I predominantly focus my own diet on real foods – lots of fruits and veggies and grains and lean proteins, but when it comes to baking I am all about the animal products, and don’t skimp on the fat and sugar. Admittedly I was pretty nervous about finding something to make this month, but I ended up finding a great raw recipe that I was excited to try, Homemade Rawtella.

Triple Chocolate Cookies for the Secret Recipe Club

For this month’s Secret Recipe Club, I was assigned My Hobbie Lobbie, a blog written by Trisha who is based out of Mumbai India. There are a lot of reasons why the SRC is great, and one of them is that you get to interact with bloggers from all over the world like I got to this month. In person I can only interact with those bloggers who are relatively nearby, but through groups like this one, I am able to expand my horizons and I think that’s so great. I had a lot of fun perusing Trisha’s blog, and from her recipes narrowed my choice down to a few great looking options before finally settling on these cookies for this month’s challenge. I read some reviews about them in which everyone raved, so I figured there was a good chance that I’d love them too. (more…)

Chocolate Cobbler

After a few months as a part of the Secret Recipe Club, I’m starting to feel at home, and I’m loving it! This month I was assigned the blog  Busy-at-Home, written by Glenda Embree. Glenda has a great, comprehensive site that covers a lot of different topics in addition to her recipes (all things home and garden, family, and savvy spending!) I had no trouble at all finding several things I wanted to make, but I settled on this incredible recipe for Chocolate Cobbler, because it’s not something I’ve ever made or even tasted. I really had no idea what to expect from the recipe, and after assembling it I was sure I’d gone wrong somewhere – the consistency and assembly looked all wrong. But what I mistook for a mistake was actually something  far from it. Something so wonderful there aren’t necessarily words to describe it. Your best bet is just to go make it yourself. (more…)
