On Paving the Road Ahead

Today is a big day in my world. I am starting a new job! I know people start new jobs all the time, but this one for me  is representative of the start to a new chapter. I looked long (long, long, long) and hard for a new position, and after many failed attempts and rejections and super close calls and bad fits, I found just the right one. I will be joining a fast growing company with ridiculously smart coworkers in a position that will challenge me every day. I am nervous because I want to do a great job and I know I have a huge learning curve ahead of me, but I am also so excited to have finally found a new place where I can put down some roots and show myself and everyone around me what I’m made of. Strawberry Rhubarb Scones

These scones. Descendants of the Flour Bakery cookbook’s Lemon Ginger Scones. They’re so very, very good — as good as the original, even, but with their own personality. I know we’re long past local strawberry season, but if you’ve read this blog for any length of time, you know I’m not great about sticking to the food blogger guidelines of sharing recipes seasonally. I give it my best shot, but sometimes I forget about this amazing recipe that I made and then when I rediscover it I think, I have to share these right away because theyaresogood.” Then you, my lovely readers, find yourselves here reading incomplete sentences with bad grammar and words all smooshed together, because I am just so excited that I remembered I made these scones that I can’t handle myself. Coconut Apricot Oatmeal Cookies

It’s been a while since I’ve stopped in to chat with you all – I hope you had a wonderful holiday season. I certainly enjoyed mine, especially having a whole SIX days off of work! The last time I had that many consecutive days out of the office was, well, never! Not since I was in college, which at this point was years ago, so it was a very welcome break. And during that time, I did LOADS of baking… and subsequent eating, and then more baking, and then more eating… and then LOTS of sleeping. It was fabulous. (more…)

Busy Times

Every time I’ve sat down to write here lately, I apologize for my absence, make excuses why I haven’t been around, and feel deeply guilty for my lack of consistency. This blog isn’t my job and I don’t do it to make money, I do it because I love to share food and experiences with other people. But lately, I just haven’t had the time, and I think I need to stop apologizing for that, and start just being okay with it. We all go through busy times, times when we can’t catch up with life’s to-do list, no matter how much we jam pack our schedules, and how much sleep we sacrifice to do it. So I think it’s time for a break. (more…)

Three Years

It’s been three years since Sweetly Serendipity came into being. I started writing here in my litte virtual world on January 26th, 2010. I’d just returned home from a semester abroad in Australia, desperate for a kitchen, and a desire to chronicle all of my adventures. I never expected to stick with it so long!

3rd Annual Local Craft Brewfest Giveaway

In lieu of a baking post today, I have an exciting giveaway for you! If you’d have told me two years ago that today I would be doing a giveaway related to beer, I would have probably laughed in your face – beer was NOT my thing. And truth be told, I still prefer an expertly crafted cocktail over a frothy pint. That being said, I absolutely love going to craft beer festivals, trying all sorts of new, crazy and inventive beers. While I have a hard time finishing a big mug ‘o beer, I can easily put away several tasting sizes, and it’s a blast to spend an evening tasting and talking with the brewers who make all of the beer. Recipe Round-up

I started a new job a little over a month ago, working as the Social Media Manager for a retail store in Cambridge, MA. I never expected to find a job where I get to do a lot of the things I love and get paid for it, but here we are! One of the best parts of the job – arguably my favorite – is that I spend one day a week developing recipes, testing them, and then blogging about them on the company’s food and lifestyle blog, Dinner Series.
