Apple Crumble Cake

Apple picking is my single favorite fall activity, and I look forward to it all year long. There is something so magical about strolling through an orchard, plucking ripe fruit from the trees, and eating altogether too many apples in a short span of time. If I get to choose, I prefer to go when the sun is shining, the air is chilly, and I can comfortably wear a sweater for the excursion. Seems like the perfect embodiment of fall in New England. Pumpkin Tassies with Salted Dark Chocolate

I’m not sure about you, but I very rarely succeed in making the recipes I pin on Pinterest. I can waste exorbitant amounts of time scrolling through recipes and pretty pictures, day dreaming and scheming, but the actual number of recipes that become a reality is pretty small. These little beauties, however, were something I pinned last fall, rediscovered this year, and finally made a couple weeks ago! (more…)

Fresh Fig Walnut Crumble Bars

Happy October, friends! As I write this post, I’m cuddled up under a blanket, and grudgingly just turned on the heat for the first time this season. The good news? My new house seems to have a pretty efficient heating system for a 110 year old structure. The bad news? Heating bills are imminent 🙁 I love fall when the sun is out and the sky is gleaming blue, but when we’ve got hurricanes threatening and rain coming down, it’s a bit foreboding. Good thing I have a fridge full of fig bars and pumpkin tassies and Reese’s pieces cookies (recipes all coming soon!) that I’ve packed away so I can eat my feelings about the impending cold weather. No wonder I’ve needed to work harder at the gym lately! (more…)

Brown Butter Peaches ‘n Cream Cupcakes

I really love summer, but I’m starting to miss baking. Turning the oven on when it’s a thousand degrees outside is hardly an exciting prospect — and besides that, the few free moments I find to myself are either spent taking a second to relax, or doing one of the trillion house projects I have. This has been a splendid summer, every second of it filled to the brim with goodness, but it seems like there’s always far more to fit into each day than a measly 24 hours allows. So I’ve let the baking get away from me, and I’m starting to feel the void. (more…)

Raspberry Rhubarb Crisp

In my 27 years, I’d never been to Cape Cod before this summer. My family always took our summer vacations up to Maine, and off-season trips to the Vineyard in the fall. Cape Cod was only a means for transitioning from the mainland to the Island, where I fell in love year after year with the quaint villages and island communities in the quieter months. I never really thought it necessary to explore the Cape more, because the Island gave me everything I needed. That is, until, I started to share my time with someone whose Cape Cod roots run as deep as my Vineyard ones do.

Strawberry Rhubarb Crumb Bars

Summer is a season of abundance, and the abundance is all around. In this summer’s earliest days, I’ve watched my small garden blossom. I’ve spent hours ambling through my parents’ overflowing gardens, marveling at the beauty of all that new life. I’ve walked outside and felt the sunshine streaming down, creating a feeling of more indulgence than I think I’m entitled to. I’ve felt the grass in the backyard of my new home under my toes, a mix of exhilaration and pride overwhelming the fear of this new responsibility. My life feels incredibly abundant lately — and the feeling of fullness sometimes makes me feel like I might explode. Strawberry Cream Slab Pie

It’s strawberry season! Personally, one of my favorite seasons. The warm weather is here, fresh produce is cropping up everywhere, and the days are gloriously loonnngggg. It’s so, so wonderful. I love the changing of seasons, but the beginning of summer always makes me wish that it’d never end. Thank goodness we’ve got a few full months of this ahead of us! (more…)
