Gingerbread Chocolate Chip Blondies

I’ve often expressed my affinity for things in bar form, but there comes a point when it feels like you’ve tried every brownie and blondie recipe out there, and to make things interesting you’ve got to mix it up somehow. Personally, I could never tire of a spectacular chocolate brownie (these are my go-to), but it is fun to try new things and see what you come up with. (more…)

Spiced Sugar Cookie ‘Spicedoodles’

I’m sure you’re wondering, are “Spicedoodles” really a thing? It’s a good question, and I don’t really know the answer, but for the purposes of this post we’re just gonna go with it. Calling these Spiced Sugar Cookies might be more correct, but calling them spicedoodles is certainly a lot more fun. Regardless of what they’re called though, they’re super delicious, so you should probably read on. (more…)

Salted Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie Bars

Happy New Year, friends! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season full of family, friends, and food. As evidenced by my apparent disappearance from this blog, I was a busy bee for much of December, and it’s only now that I’m back to work and falling back into a routine that it seems like there is time to get back to the business of “normal” life. At the present moment, I’ve got eight blog posts waiting to be written and published — a backlog unlike I’ve ever had — but I haven’t felt compelled to put fingers to keypad lately. It’s just one of those blogger life seasons, I guess, where the words don’t come as easily, and life seems to speed by with other priorities taking the lead. (more…)

Salted Caramel-Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookies

It seems to me that cookies are synonymous with the holiday season. They’re a great office gift, a perfect post-holiday-meal treat, and a much-needed pick-me-up during these hectic days of December. For this reason and many others, The Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap is kind of a genius idea. I love the idea of it — bake three dozen cookies, send one dozen each to three other bloggers, and receive three dozen cookies yourself. Sounds pretty amazing, right? But I know myself, and this time of year things get so busy that I wasn’t sure I should commit. Intrigue, and the idea of loads of delicious cookies, got the better of me this year though, and I decided to partake in the 5th annual cookie swap. (more…)

Caramel Apple Pie Bars

Friends. It’s DecemberHow did this happen? I swear yesterday it was warm and sunny, and I was looking forward to the coming fall activities with pretty leaves and pumpkin lattes and being able to layer my clothes again. Now I have a forearm strain from spending too many hours cleaning up those “pretty leaves,” and the “layers” have come to be covered by the parka I now wear to work in the morning. Also 2015 is almost over. And I’m going to be one year older very, very soon. Woof.  (more…)

Pumpkin Oreo Cheesecake Bars

Fact: there is not nearly enough cheesecake in my life. For some reason, cheesecake is a largely overlooked dessert when I’m considering what recipe to make next. Pinterest pictures of cheesecake are always super enticing, but the actual act of making them somehow seems like too much work, even though I’ve made plenty of them before. In bar form, however, they seem much more approachable, and as often happens, when I came across this recipe the photos totally roped me in, and these Pumpkin Cheesecake Bars came to be. (more…)

Reese’s Pieces Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter Cookies

I’m not sure about anyone else, but I’ve developed some weird shopping habits as pertains to certain baking ingredients. From time to time I’ll encounter either an ingredient I have a particular affinity for, or a seasonal item I’ve fallen in love with, and stock up on it like the end of the world is coming. I have this totally bizarre reaction and worry that if I don’t buy this thing right now, then I might never have another chance. While completely false (pumpkin reappears every fall, mint m&ms come every winter, and Reese’s Pieces are never out of style), it’s often enough motivation to drive a purchase, and I end up taking home things I really don’t need. I guess we all have our issues quirks? (more…)
