A couple weekends ago, I did something I’ve never done before. I went out and bought over-ripe bananas for the express purpose of baking with them. Usually my banana-baking pursuits come out of necessity, when there are rotten bananas taking up space on the counter, or too many collected in the freezer and I need to use them up. But this time, I was really craving banana bread, and when I saw heaps of blackening bananas at the supermarket I scooped them right up!
When I first heard of Foodie Pen pals just one short month ago, I thought it was such a cool idea! I loved having penpals in elementary school; somehow sharing letters with a stranger as if you were friends was such a novel idea to me, and it allowed me to feel connected in places besides my immediate surroundings. Now being a grown up, I still revel at the idea, especially when food is involved! I don’t know anyone who doesn’t enjoy receiving packages in the mail, especially when they’re filled with thoughtful treats from another foodie like me. (more…)
Audax Artifex was our January 2012 Daring Bakers’ host. Aud worked tirelessly to master light and fluffy scones (a/k/a biscuits) to help us create delicious and perfect batches in our own kitchens! I had nothing planned because it totally slipped my mind (oops!), but it just so happens that today I had this post scheduled about my own birthday, so I guess it all works out?! My birthday/blog birthday? Virtually interchangeable. So without further ado, today’s post! (more…)
I had been lusting over these brownies for some time before I finally made them in my own kitchen. The peanut butter and chocolate combination is so classic, but sometimes it seems a bit overdone, so I try to keep away from making too many recipes with peanut butter and chocolate as the star ingredients. But every once in a while a recipe comes along that I just can’t resist, and these brownies were one of those – an absolute necessity. Take one of the best flavor combinations in the book, put them into fudgy bar form, add some flaky sea salt on top, and you’ve just elevated your dessert to a whole new level. (more…)
